When I fixed my timing and tuned my carb better the shifts got softer unless I hit a sweet spot, and they also came a little later. With a very small screw driver inserted into the nipple where the vac hose slides on to there is a screw you turn it in to make it shift later. I do a 1/4 turn at a time till it shifts when I want.
